Pocket Novel Mystery - Eight Days in the Life of Grace
Self-produced by cult-darlings Pocket Novel Mystery ("PNM") during a whirlwind period of creativity, personal tragedy, and interpersonal discord that ultimately led to the group's untimely break-up
with its release still pending, "Eight Days in the Life of Grace" is an undeniably emotionally authentic DIY masterpiece.
"Eight Days..." features eight interrelated musical vignettes, each of which depicts scenes and impressions from one random day in the life of the album's fictional protagonist, Grace, a young woman on the brink of a psychotic episode (in which she hallucinates the moon is crashing through her bedroom window one night as she lies awake in bed). "Eight Days..." is the uneven, eclectic, and occasionally even inspired debut of an indie rock band that, for a moment in time, seemed poised to do great things.
"Eight Days..." features guest performances by Elizabeth King on accordion and Thea Vorass on cello. It was engineered by Tom Parker of Projekt Records' Mira.
